Indians split non-region games with Red Devils and Pirates

The Dodge County Indians basketball team opened their season by splitting games with Hawkinsville and Appling County

on the road last week. The Indians defeated Hawkinsville 73-43 in their season opener on Tuesday, December 2 and then

lost to a tough Appling County Pirate team 60-74 on Friday, December 5.

 

The Indians enter the 2008-09 season with a new head coach and having lost six seniors from last years’ first round state

tournament team. The Indians welcome new head coach, Tim Passmore along with assistants Cory Hobbs and Danielle

Johnson. Passmore comes to Dodge from West Laurens where he was an assistant for four years. This is Passmore’s first

high school head coaching job in basketball. Team members include: seniors, Javarris Gordon, Telvin Strutchen, Calvin Nash,

and Jermayne Hamilton; juniors, Cyprin Burse, Herschel Anderson, Jordan Jones, Dra Clark; sophomores, Eric Bruemmer,

Tamius Lemon, Chris Howard; freshmen, Leonard Floyd and Greg Butler.

 

The Indians led 14-7 after one quarter against the Red Devils of Hawkinsville. Cyprin Burse and Eric Bruemmer each had three

points in the quarter. Dodge extended their lead to 36-19 in the second quarter. Telvin Strutchen led Dodge with nine points

in the second quarter. Strutchen had eight points in the third to lead the Indians to a 56-30 third quarter advantage. Herschel

Anderson led the Indians with five points in the final quarter as Dodge took the 73-43 non-region win. Final scoring for the Indians

against Hawkinsville was: Telvin Strutchen, 23 points; Eric Bruemmer, 12 points; Jermayne Hamilton, 10 points; Cyprin Burse, nine

points; Herschel Anderson, five points; Javarris Gordon, four points; Leonard Floyd, four points; Calvin Nash, two points; Dra Clark,

two points; Tamius Lemon, one point; Jordan Jones, one point.

 

The Indians were outscored by Appling County 23-13 in the first quarter. Cyprin Burse had three points to lead Dodge in the quarter.

Jermayne Hamilton and Burse each had six points in the second quarter as the Indians trailed 28-40 at the half. Hamilton had six in the

third quarter as the Indians trailed 42-61. Strutchen had five in the final quarter as the Indians lost 60-73 to the Pirates. Final scoring for

the Indians against the Pirates: Jermayne Hamilton, 15 points; Telvin Strutchen, 15 points; Cyprin Burse, 12 points; Javarris Gordon,

eight points; Calvin Nash, four points;  Eric Bruemmer, two points; Tamius Lemon, two points; Leonard Floyd, two points.

 

The Indian were scheduled to host Toombs County on Tuesday, December 9 before traveling to Bleckley County on Friday, December 12,

Swainsboro on Saturday, December 13 and West Laurens on Tuesday, December 16.
